  1.                      HOW THE MENUS WORK.

  3. THERE ARE SEVERAL WAYS TO USE THE MENUS.  THEY ARE AS FOLLOWS:

  6.     1. PRESS THE INS KEY.  This will start the FILE menu.  You can make
  7.        a choice in the FILE menu several ways:
  8.  
  9.        a) You can point to the option you want in the FILE menu with
  10.           the up and down arrow keys and then press return.
  11.        b) You can press the first letter of the option you want and it
  12.           will immediately be selected.
  13.  
  14.        To use menus other than the FILE menu, press the left and right
  15.        arrow keys after the INS key to point to a different menu.  This
  16.        is also a good way to familiarize yourself with all the
  17.        different menu choices available.

  19.                          It is good to remember that
  20.            YOU CAN ALWAYS PRESS THE ESC KEY TO CANCEL WHAT YOU WERE
  21.                               CURRENTLY DOING.
  22.        If you were in a menu, then pressing the ESC key will cancel
  23.        that menu.

  25.     2. PRESS THE "/" KEY FOLLOWED BY THE FIRST LETTER OF THE MENU YOU
  26.        WANT.  For example, to enter the PRINT menu, you would press
  27.        "/P".  This saves having to press a number of arrow keys after
  28.        INS to get over to the PRINT menu.  For those of you who are
  29.        used to 1-2-3, this method works very similar to 1-2-3.  To use
  30.        the "/" key itself in typing, just press it twice in a row.

  32.     3. PRESS THE ALT KEY AND THE FIRST LETTER OF THE MENU YOU WANT.
  33.        For example, to enter the PRINT menu, press ALT-P;  Or, to enter
  34.        the DISPLAY menu, press ALT-D.

  36.     4. PRESS THE APPROPRIATE SHORTCUT KEYSTROKE AND BYPASS THE MENUS
  37.        ENTIRELY.  Alongside many menu options is listed a single
  38.        keystroke.  For example, in the EDIT menu, the first option FIND
  39.        STRING lists (^F).  This means that you can press ^F (Ctrl-F) to
  40.        immediately execute the FIND STRING option without using the
  41.        menus at all.

  43.        This is mostly for advanced users who wish to speed up the
  44.        operation of PC-OUTLINE.  You will notice that every menu option
  45.        does not have a shortcut keystroke listed.  This is because
  46.        there are only so many shortcut keystroke combinations.  If you
  47.        want some menu options to have shortcut keystrokes that don't
  48.        already have them, or you want to change some of the existing
  49.        shortcuts, you can define your own shortcut keystrokes with the
  50.        KEY DEFINITION facility in the ADVANCED menu.  There is more
  51.        about this option in the printed manual.

  53.     5. Try these methods now, and remember, if you get stuck press Esc.
